AUSTIN BOUND

I am on my way to Austin for the weekend. I promised my oldest son I would help him PAINT some accent walls in his place. My middle son will be announcing the UT WOMEN'S BASKETBALL game tonight. (keep your fingers crossed) My daughter wants to attend the ZILKER PARK kite flying contest. We hope to get some great shots with our cameras. But the best part about going to Austin is my mosaic show. My mosaics will be hanging at the Guadalupe location of KERBEY LANE for the month of March. I hope you go by and see them and maybe buy one????????

CITY LIFE

CITY LIFE is my art journal entry for yesterday. I was inspired by the hand filling the gas tank and the buildings in the city.

I finished this page last night. I am happy with how it turned out. Now I am working on a new project. This one was started during Hurricane Ike.

BOLLYWOOD COMING TO HOLLYWOOD

Did you watch the Oscars last night? I was so happy that "Slumdog Millionaire" won eight oscars! I loved that movie!! The colorful story, which mixes the gritty life of Mumbai's poor with the shiny aspirations of the new India, features no stars recognizable to Western audiences, but it may have made one of its native country. So, is it time for Bollywood -- as India's huge Mumbai-based film industry is called -- to come to America?
" 'Slumdog' is the reason why people go to the movies. It's the whole package," said Gene Newman, editorial director at Premiere.com. "It's an incredible story ... and it makes you feel good." Remember this shot where he jumps into the latrene? I read that it was peanut butter. Watch this video and they will tell you about the movie:

AUSTIN'S HOMELESS

The weather there is pretty damned good most of the year. There are a lot of good hearted Liberal folks who enable them.

I’ve long maintained that a majority of homeless people are on the streets by their own choice —either because of their drug addictions (yes, that was their choice) or because they’d rather live “free” than become part of society.

I shot these pictures yesterday.

HAPPY 30TH BIRTHDAY

My oldest son, Brent, celebrated his 30th birthday yesterday. We surprised him for lunch today. He lives in Austin so we took him to THE HULA HUT for lunch. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRENT!

SIGN OF THE TIMES

These are the NEW logos for today's economy. I thought they were really funny!

A VIAGRA ADVERTISEMENT

I'm sure that you have seen pharmaceutical advertising in doctor's offices on everything from tissues to exam table cover paper. Well, in my book, this one should get the prize... One of our friends (a urologist) e-mailed back: "If the light stays on for more than 4 hours, call your electrician."

SILHOUETTE SUNSETS

I am hoping for a calm feeling today and therefore I wanted to share some sunset silhouette photos that we took a while back. Isn't the sky gorgeous?

IDOL CHATTER

Ok, I have to admit that I watch this show. They started their 8th season and it is still as corny as ever. They selected the 36 finalists and now it is up to America to decide who the next American Idol will be. You can check them out at the following link:

PHOTOGRAPHY FOR ANY WORD

I ran across this website where you can go to any letter of the alphabet and it will show you a photograph having to do with a word. It is really neat!

This is something fun for today:

WILD HAIR WOMAN

I have a neighbor that we call "FRIZZY HAIR". I hate to admit that we don't know her real name but she was the inspiration behind this art journal entry.
There are days where I feel just like this woman with the wild hair!

SWIMMING REFLECTION

SWIMMING REFLECTION is what I call this art journal entry. I took the sunset picture driving back from dinner one night. I saw the top page in a magazine and decided to blend the two and use watercolor paint and markers.

CONNECT

My art journal entry for yesterday is called CONNECT. Pick up the phone and touch someone you haven't spoken to in a while. I guess since you are reading this on your computer you could also E-MAIL.
MAY YOUR DAY BE FULL OF RAINBOWS...

PIGGYBACK ART

I learned something new yesterday and it is called Piggyback Art. HAVE YOU HEARD OF IT??? Eddie Breen is one of those artists! At first you might think that someone is destroying the original creator's conception. But it's fascinating to see what this man's conception of art is and get inside his mind. It reminds me of what I am thinking when I create my mosaic art.
Visit his page and tell me what you think.

MOVE PAIN FREE

Does anybody experience pain while moving ? I know I have! It seems alot of people have localized pain. It is totally weird that a knee and toes are terrible one day, then the next day the knee and toes aren't as intense, but a right thumb and left finger are terrible. It seems the pain is just rolling around to different parts of my body. This was the inspiration for this entry yesterday in my art journal.

WEB POSTER EXHIBIT

Shepard Fairey was offered to support Barack Obama's campaign with some posters in January 2008, he readily got permission from Obama to do so. Within a day, he had finished a design, one with the text "PROGRESS", and another with "HOPE".
These posters were inspired by the original Poster above, but most are "below the belt". ENJOY:
  • Alfred E. Neuman on the cover of MAD, Fairey's favorite parody
  • Hillary Clinton
  • Winnie the Pooh
  • Bill Clinton
  • Bob Hope
  • Luke Skywalker
  • Pope Benedict 16
  • Sarah Palin
  • Amy Winehouse
